Blood Mining - An Analysis of the Resources Curse

26 Sussex Place London NW1 4SA United KingdomDescription
"The world has made extraordinary progress since WWII. However, the negative outcomes of foreign investment into countries with abundant natural resources are like sores that continue stubbornly to get worse. Resource wealth now powers many of the most violent and repressive regimes across the globe. Their mis-governance fuels extremism and failed states, which in turn creates problems that return to haunt those very foreign investors who start the process."
Prof. Leif Wenar and Paul Jourdan will discuss why they think there is a blind spot in modern international law, creating a cycle of repression and violence in resource-rich countries, and also propose changes needed in order to lift the curse.
Prof. Leif Wenar is the author of Blood Oil: Tyrants, Violence, and the Rules that Run the World.
Paul Jourdan is a fund manager at Amati Global Investors
